Commercial Possibilites For PHEVs

A consumer friendly retrofit kit is now available for the Prius, based on the system developed by CalCars.

The EDrive is a product for the Prius that allows owners to plug in their hybrid for 8 hours to achieve about 50 miles of all electric driving, provide a fuel economy of 100 or more miles per gallon on the freeway, or a combination of the two.

I have previously commented that the Prius Plus system by CalCars could likely see quite a bit of consumer demand should a more practical and cost effective solution be developed. While EDrive LLC has yet to set a price or secure a production facility, this may be that very solution.
